Letter from Mission President--August 2013
Dear Sister Jeppsen-
We have received word from the Missionary Department that you have been called by the Lord to serve in the Missouri Independence Mission. Your call to serve has come from those that we sustain as Prophets, Seers and Revelators. Each missionary is called individually by revelation by one who has authority. I am confident that the spirit witnessed this truth to you as you opened your call to serve. Sister Keyes and I congratulate you and extend to you a warm welcome.
You have been called to a mission rich in church history. Jackson County, Far West and the Far West Temple site, the Liberty Jail, Independence, the Eight Witnesses Monument, Adam-ondi-Ahman, Haun's Mill, the Three Witnesses Monument and many other significant, sacred and historical sites bless this mission. The Lord revealed to the Prophet Joseph Smith that the land of Missouri is Zion, a consecrated land of promise and the place for the New Jerusalem to which Jesus Christ will return. "Behold, the place which is now called Independence is the center place. " (D&C 57:1-3)
Doctrine and Covenants, Section 4, provides excellent counsel and direction for you as you embark in the service of the Lord: "see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength." Prepare yourself to be worthy and ready physically and spiritually to thrust in your sickle with all you might in the service of the Savior and His divine work. Your spiritual preparation and your decision to follow the Lord will be a great blessing throughout your mission and throughout your entire life.
We look forward to your safe arrival and to meeting with you. We pray that our Father in Heaven will attend you as you prepare to answer His clarion call to serve in this sacred work.
